Protection of industrial property: a professional priority
With counterfeiting now on a global scale and trafficking of counterfeit merchandise on the rise, France has stepped up measures in recent years to counter this scourge, which has been the subject of numerous studies and conferences. In the face of internationally organised mafia-style networks, industry professionals and government authorities (customs, DIGITIP, etc.) have formed an alliance that is critical to combating the damaging effects of counterfeiting, particularly when it comes to jobs (pattern copying, fraudulent use of trademarks, etc.).
In the clothing and fashion industry, the Fédération Française du Prêt à Porter Féminin, represented by the French Clothing Industry Union (UFIH), is a stakeholder in the work being carried out by the CNAC – the National Anti-Counterfeiting Committee at the Ministry for the Economy, Finance and Industry. This committee is responsible for handling counterfeiting issues and its main goal is to improve legal measures in other countries to bring them in line with those in France, where the law offers better protection of industrial property rights.
